Hotel - The Glass Extension

Project Description

This is a Retail and Hospitality Project in the Heritage Building built in 1873 at 460 King Street West, at the northwest corner of King and Spadina. Since the City of Toronto has protected this building, we will keep the original façade of the heritage building intact, and design the interior based on our concept.

This is a group project.

Concept Statement & Conceptual Abstract Model

With the highlight of the sense of privacy and privilege, each suite room in our hotel will stand individually and has its own access. They are arranged in a spiral elevation that gradually rises along with the city skyline and represents the liveliness of multiple industries within the neighborhood. Being the extension above the rectangular heritage building, the addition of a rectangular cover will resonate with its shape, though the translucency and the use of glass will add a visual contrast that would make the building stand out from the surroundings and demonstrate the development of today's building technology.
